Is the installation all in 1 building?
Cameras needs to communicate with the control station (DVR/NVR). Analogue systems has to have a cable running from each camera to the DVR. IP camera systems can transmit its video through a network interface, which has wireless options available.
Analogue or IP system
An analogue system is the more traditional type of installation. This is more cost effective, however installation is more difficult, but suitable for smaller type of installations.
IP (network) camera systems tend to be more expensive but have superior quality and reliability and is easier to install in larger scale systems, or larger property types.
Bare in mind, if a lot of cameras are in remote locations, an analogue system would not be possible.
Do you require colour video at night?
New technology allows cameras to view colour at night opposed to the traditional black and white. These night colour cameras adds to the cost.
Do you need audio?

Do you want to link your CCTV with an alarm system?
Alarm systems and CCTV camera systems can communicate with each other. As an example, if movement is detected through the alarm system, the camera system can be notified to have a PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom camera that can turn) to look at the specific location. The reverse is also available that the camera system can trigger the alarm system if specific movement is detected.
Solar powered camera locations
Cameras can be mounted in remote locations without any power with a solar panel. These are typically for longer distances around a perimeter.
